Discontent

Strike next Wednesday (here, here, here and here). Short of a last minute sell-out, fairly unlikely given the overwhelming ballot support, the largest public sector strike since the Winter of Discontent is about to burst all over New Labour - just in time for the election. (No, the Tories won't win because of it. The Tories will not win.) The strength of feeling over pensions is quite startling, but whether the infuriatingly timid union leaderships have the bottle to carry it through to anything like victory remains to be seen.

Between this and what looks set to be a massive anti-war demonstration on Saturday, there's a good chance of substantially shifting the agenda for the election away from ASBOs and asylum. Finally.
