Having blithely predicted Kerry's Kinnock-like slide to defeat down the back of the most embarrassingly hopeless campaign, it seems he has started talking a little bit about not liking the Iraq war very much. Kerry followed this cunning political chicane with the truly staggering achievement of making Bush look foolish in a debate. Cue sudden revival of enthusiasm amongst US liberals and, it seems, sections of the US electorate.

It's clever stuff from the revitalised Kerry campaign. Iraq war bad and unpopular? George Bush inarticulate? Next up, Kerry's team announce Pope to be Catholic and demand further investigations into bear's toilet habits.
